Adventures in Screenwriting

I'm currently attending summer school.

"Eww, why?!"

Because I want to. Haha!

I'm currently taking a class in screenwriting and a yoga class. Later on I'm going to take a media studies class. Since my family and I don't have definite vacation plans, this is the perfect time to get some perquisite classes out of the way before transfer. (By the way, we did go on vacation last month. We went to Las Vegas. I'll post more about that later.) Only problem about school is that its not giving me time to finish my Rorschach cosplay! Comic Con is coming up and it'll be the perfect time to cosplay as him!

Anyway, screenwriting is interesting but grueling. So far, here's what's been happening besides sitting through lectures. We came up with story ideas and did some brainstorming. Recently we have been writing our screenplays and they are suppose to be completed by this weekend.

Now here's the grueling part. The professor wanted us to explain our stories to the class IN CHARACTER. We had to describe scenes and characters while acting like the main character! Classmates would also ask us questions about what are characters feel about things, what they like and dislike, etc. At times it was hard but we still managed. I never expected any acting involved in the class.

My goal is to have a completed short screenplay by the end of the semester. That way I'll turn it into a short film when I take digital film production class next semester. (I'm assuming that the class will be offered.)

I had an idea for a story. Originally, it was going to be about a group of nerdy friends who help their friend go out with a girl who is out of his league. Once meeting the girl in person, the main character finds out that she's not who she seemed to appear. The story was a feel-good comedy with a message. It was about people faking themselves over the internet and the consequences of it.

After telling my idea to the class, my professor suggested that I'd make big changes to it. He thought it was unoriginal. I too thought it was full of cliches and I wasn't exactly confident about it. I took his advice, but I decided use his ideas MY WAY.

The story is now about a girl who, after getting rejected by her crush, hooks up with a guy over the internet. When she meets him in person, she discovers that he's not who he seemed to appear online. His presence makes her uncomfortable and she ends the date early. She then starts feeling paranoid, feeling that the guy is going after her. The story is a thriller with the same theme as the previous story.

It was hard to change the plot and mindset of the original story, but, surprisingly, it didn't take me that long to make changes to it.

In unrelated news, WALL-E IS GOING TO BE IN THEATERS THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M SO GOING TO WATCH IT ON OPENING DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and Wanted will also be in theaters.
